  27. Glen says:

In the 1960’s, my step-dad was stationed in West Germany. So, for three Christmas seasons, we were immersed in the German way. There I tasted my first shortbread cookies and became a devotee. The bakery was around the corner and seemed to bake 24 hours a day. Good smells all the time. At that time, the Germans bought only enough food for about one day or two. Home refrigerators were not widespread, yet. Lots of recollections of pine trees, homemade decorations, ornate manger scenes, and excellent food. Both my parents are gone now, but lots of good memories. The merriest Christmas to you and yours.

  28. Thank you so much for sharing your story, Glen!! We love good memories and yours are wonderful to hear. My parents met in Germany and my mother graduated from Heidelberg High School, so my family has a special place in our hearts for German cooking and German pastry treats. And you are entered in the giveaway!
